The grounds cover 30-40 farms totalling around 180,000 acres (72,000 Hectares) with numerous woods and hedges. The area has such a strong pigeon population because not just agricultural crops (barley, wheat, rape etc.) are grown here but a substantial acreage of vegetables such as lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, peas and beans are cultivated for the major supermarkets thereby providing food for the birds all the year round.
