REFERENCE SECTION Clients often ask me to recommend a UK based taxidermist for their bird or deer trophies. You should remember that you cannot leave the UK with salted or wet skins. If you live overseas and arrive with wet or salted & dry skins or anything with fur or feather or meat, you are likely to have the items confiscated unless you have the correct paperwork with you. Many hunters assume they will save a lot of money by taking their trophies home and getting their local taxidermist to do the work. This is now becoming a false economy because the cost of getting the extra paperwork and extra time involved seldom makes this worthwhile. Mad cow disease, foot & mouth and now avian flu outbreaks have resulted in a dramatic increase in bio security. Regulations vary from one country to another. The only reliable source of information is from your own customs authorities. Antlers, tusks or bone which is dry and has no no trace of meat or tissue is usually no problem to transport in and out of the UK. I recommend Phil Lloyd owner of Trophy Taxidermy Studios who has a web site if you click on this text here . He is based on the West Coast of Scotland, but his geographical location is irrelevant as he can accept shipments of frozen, salted or tanned specimens from around the world and ship completed mounts to you in the UK, Europe and beyond. If you plan to go overseas from the UK , Phil will be able to advise what paperwork is required before you travel so that you ensure the correct papers are obtained when importing your trophy to the UK. |
